EU issues an official warning to Britain over its public finances

UK gets EU warning on public borrowing | This is Money

It said it expected the UK to take longer than other countries - including Ireland, Spain and France - to get its deficit back under control.
    LOL

No, no, it's only the small countries that the EU bullies - everyone knows that. Seriously, though, that's hardly surprising, since they're rather more exposed by virtue of being outside the eurozone.

Ireland might have more trouble in the short term finding money to keep going (although that is a "might") but it really looks like the UK are storing up far far bigger problems for themselves in the future than even we are. Then there is just the scale of the thing. OK it's very bad in our case the % of GDP that e.g. bailing out our banks will cost, but the sheer absolute numbers in the UK are vast. I would not like to be earning sterling or having savings in sterling.

The british are in deep deep trouble. New labour have done immense damage to the british economy by simply not having a clue. Brown, Mandelson and Blair in particular are purely spin doctors.

Wonder will there be an early election in Britain?

True, and equally worrying is that many among the British electorate now think that the (recently re-nastified) tories are a good alternative.

I doubt it. Brown is going to hang on as long as he possibly can and keep praying for a miracle.
