The Massacre of the Innocents - the Last Stand of the Tamil Tigers

The Massacre of the Innocents - the Last Stand of the Tamil Tigers & the Silence of the World

Its hard to believe that if the Tamils were Tibetans Timorese or indeed Palestinians or Kurds that this brutal Finale by the TTs in Sri Lanka would be ignored.

Are the Tamils a lower form of Humanity or just unlucky enough to have non powerful enemies with no strategic clout?

Some conflicts notably the Israel-Palestinian one, command world attention. Some don't. The Palestinian have the Islamic nations backing them and stoking the fires, the Tibetans have the high profile Dalai Lama but the Tamils have no one. More to the point the Tigers are a fairly ruthless bunch led by a guy is believed to be unstable in the head so it is hard to whip up support for a group like that and this means Tamils in general tend to be off the PC multicultural radar. Maybe if the Sri Lankan Army had a few Jewish officers or used Israeli weaponry the left might get agitated about the conflict.

The IDF is involved with the Sri Lankan Air Force anyway.

Yes the TTs are a pretty ruthless bunch too,

    - but whatever about the DL no one could accuse Hamas, Hezbollah or Fatah of being Peace Loving Hippie Jerks either!

No of course not - its the Innocent civilians here that I'm voicing concern on here.

Where's the International Condemnation of the SL Government over their attacks

    - considering the Flak the Israelis get it's a wonder the World is so silent over this one.

Or consider this time 10 years ago when there was the 'Wag the Dog' War upon FRY because of what was happening in Kossovo...

The Serbs killed nothing like this number of innocent people yet were bombed to bits supposedly because of it.

and so it goes on and the World does nothing....

They are not Muslims, they don't have any Oil, Gas. Uranium or do drugs so like who cares?

They are not being oppressed by the Israelis, the Russians, the Chinese or the Brits so like what the Hell....

    Boring Boring Boring.

They're only hapless Tamils on some tropical island off the southern tip of India.

Two days of shelling in Sri Lanka's northern war zone killed at least 430 civilians — and likely as many as 1,000 — a government doctor in the area said Monday.
The United Nations called the artillery barrages a "bloodbath" that killed more than 100 children, and a coalition of international human rights groups called for the U.N. Security Council to hold formal talks on the war.

Thanks for starting this thread. I had a Sri Lankan, Tamil friend years ago who was a socialist. We lost touch a long time ago. He was trying to organise a left wing party in territory held by the Tamils. The impression I had from him was that the Tamils were a people with plenty to complain about and much discriminated against. The impression I had of the Tigers was that they were ferociously violent and would be none too friendly to local socialists.

I'm way out of touch on this, apart from seeing the sad pictures of people trying to get out of the areas where fighting is going on. In some way, it may be an illustration of a movement that overrelied on military means and lacked a political perspective, but I would defer to anyone with greater knowledge of the current situation than I have.
