What is the nature of this 'commitment'? You obviously haven't read Golda Meir's autobiography in which there is a reference to nuclear weapons being loaded onto Israeli jets during the six day war.
Israel is a disaster in a long line of disasters seen as a solutions by the west at one time. It is quite possible that the greatest cause of conflict in the 20th century wasn't generals with air support but negotiators with stubby pencils poised over maps.
Israel's claim to a separate state in Palestine is a historical fake. Jewish people are entitled to live as citizens in Palestine and no more than that and any claim beyond that is based on religiously inspired bullshyte.
It isn't even certain that Jewish tribes didn't end up in Palestine in the first place because they were in flight from a Persian Emperor. The Khazars mentioned on this thread who appear genetically to have close links with Ashkenazi jews appear to have emerged from Turkey and the closest thing they ever had to a state was a bandit territory where they sat across the old Silk Road demanding tribute from anyone who passed along the road. Until they were driven out of it.
As far back as we can go in history the history of jewish tribes has been one of constant flight for one reason or another so one can understand the development of a hokey claim to a separate state for cultural reasons.
The only historical claim Ashkenazi jews have in Palestine is that they are entitled to live alongside other tribes in Palestine. Thats it. Every other claim is a fake and is not supported by any evidence other than an old testament claim written by Ashkenazi Jews for Ashkenazi Jews.
