    IRMS news

Following in the footsteps of former Chief Superintendent John Carey, retired Garda Superintendent Pat Doyle has joined IRMS's 170-strong Shell security team in Mayo. This is being discussed on another thread, with a warning from the MOD to deal carefully with the matter. It would be reasonable to suggest that assurances of Garda impartiality in the conflict between Shell and members of the Erris community are undermined by such recruitments.

Some relevant extracts from the Mayo People report of 5th October:

In a statement yesterday IRMS Director, Jim Farrell, confirmed the expansion of the company’s services for Shell and Pat Doyle’s employment.
“In September, we expanded our services on Corrib Gas. In addition to our work on the pipeline route, we also now manage all safety and security services at the terminal site. We are pleased that over 60 of those who had worked at the terminal for Gilmore Security have joined our team. We now have 70 people from the local area working with us, all benefitting from enhanced training and qualification courses.”
Of course one of IRMS's most famous employees and trainees is the subject of our thread here:

IRMS has worked on security for the Corrib gas project since 2008. Last year it became involved in controversy after one of its former employees, Michael Dwyer – who had worked at the Corrib project in 2008 – was killed by police in mysterious circumstances in Bolivia on April 16, 2009. Just over a week later, IRMS security personnel again became embroiled in another mysterious controversy after Rossport farmer, Willie Corduff claimed he was assaulted by masked men in the middle of the night, following a protest under a parked truck at the Glengad landfall site for the pipe.

Without wanting to derail the thread, I agree with your above statement.
However, it has been clear for some time that the Gardai have not been impartial:

    Prosecution case update

Google translation of an FMBolivia.tv article:

    Financiers of terrorism targeted
La Paz, 30 November. (Cambio) .- The Attorney General is prepared to lead the second leg of the terrorism case investigation aimed at determining the involvement of several companies, institutions and individuals in financing the activities of the irregular group of Croatian mercenaries in Bolivia Eduardo Rózsa Flores the country.

The prosecutor investigating the case terrorism, Marcelo Soza, explained that those allegedly involved are not included in the indictment be submitted by December 15, since that document is considered to be those who were directly involved and offered some kind of collaboration the cell dismantled on April 16, 2008.

In this regard, he mentioned that the research is being prepared to identify and establish the identity of entities and individuals who provided financial resources to Rózsa and his accomplices, also suspects that were not investigated in the first trial.

"We have a second case by the economic issue. We will have bank accounts and a number of situations to see if financing, because that group (irregular) but was not handled with funding provided by some companies and individuals, "he said.

As the operator of justice, the main information for the secondary inquiry terrorism case was provided by a report from the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), which will even provide a supplementary document, among other indications.

UIF/ANL/08799/2009 report establishes the existence of a series of financial transactions made by several companies and foundations Santa Cruz with the support of people who were related to the irregular group of Eduardo Rózsa Flores.

The document considers, for example, rather than suspect the exchange of economic resources between Latin America Europe Foundation, the Chamber of Industry, Trade, Services and Tourism (Cainco), the Pro Santa Cruz, the Comité Pro Santa Cruz, Cooperative Rural Electrification (CRE), Foundation of America, the Fair Expo Santa Cruz (FEXPOCRUZ) and the Telecommunications Cooperative Santa Cruz (Cotas).

    Bolivian suspects charged

According to today's La Prensa Bolivian prosector Marcelo Soza has finally laid formal charges of terrrorism and armed rebellion against 39 suspects in the Eduardo Rozsa Flores case:

Given that the Santa Cruz shoot-out in which Flores and Michael Dwyer died happened back in April 2009 and it is now the last month of 2010, this seems a long time to have to wait for charges. We can perhaps compare the leisurely pace of police and judicial proceedings against the bankers and speculators who have wrecked Ireland. Yet given that 'Justicia demorada es justicia denegada'/'Justice delayed is justice denied', it is to be hoped that the coming Bolivian trials will adhere to proper standards of justice and that the accused will be seen to have received fair trials.

The BBC report on today's events...

Bolivian prosecutors have charged 39 people over an alleged plot to assassinate President Evo Morales and launch an armed rebellion last year.

They include opposition politicians and a former general who captured the guerrilla leader Che Guevara in 1967.

The alleged plot was uncovered in April 2009, when Bolivan police killed three suspected European mercenaries in the eastern city of Santa Cruz.

The accused have denied the charges, calling them politically motivated.

Most are already under arrest, but 17 are now living outside Bolivia.

The most prominent politician charged is Branco Marinkovic, a business leader and former head of the opposition Civic Committee of Santa Cruz, who is in exile in the US.
