Husband of Jacqui Smith, UK home secretary, claims adult movies as expenses

This is one of those stories

    BBC

The Home Secretary's husband has said sorry for embarrassing his wife after two adult films were viewed at their home, then claimed for on expenses.

Richard Timney, who is also Jacqui Smith's parliamentary aide, said he understood why people might be angry.

BBC political correspondent, Gary O'Donoghue, said a source told him Ms Smith was "livid and shocked" when she found out about the films.

He said he was told Ms Smith was not at home when they were viewed and said she had no intention of resigning over the matter.
It shows though that politician's expenses are scrutinised a lot more closely in the UK ... but they must both be laughing stocks now !

That's only the sensationalist and amusing tip of the iceberg!

Ms Smith allegedly rents a room from her sister in London, then claims an allowance for her second home, a rather large family home in her home constituency.

According to Sky News she's expensed items such as : two large wide screen LCD tvs, two washing machines, a kitchen sink.. the list is endless!

She also employs her husband as her assistant at £40,000 / year.

One thing's for sure, she'll have a difficult job being taken seriously with her stance on pornography and on-screen TV violence etc. Perhaps she was conducting research in the bedroom!!

Her reaction to being caught red faced and red handed is quite similar to many of our own political sleaze-merchants. She feels absolutely justified that she should be able to have the tax payer fund her household expenses.

There clearly hasn't been very much oversight of expenses in the UK, this has been going on for years. It's only just come to light.
