Advocating a pan-islamic state like the Caliphate,is not particularly extremist... in theory. In fact the original Caliphate was a far more advanced,tolerant state than many that came after it, and arguably superior to the rag-bag of states now existing in the Middle East. However if you advocate that the Caliphate contains countries that are not, or are no longer, Islamic countries, such as Spain or Greece, then you certainly are an extremist. And for many of these people that is exactly what the Caliphate means for them
If you advocate Sharia Law as some kind of informal process like the Jewish courts, then, once again...no harm done. But if you advocate that Sharia Law replace the law of the land and that it be applied to all, even non-Moslems, then that is an extremist,intolerant position.
