Obama to Decide in Coming Days on Striking Baluchistan (Pakistan)

WASHINGTON — President Obama and his national security advisers are considering expanding the American covert war in Pakistan far beyond the unruly tribal areas to strike at a different center of Taliban power in Baluchistan, where top Taliban leaders are orchestrating attacks into southern Afghanistan.

This was one campaign promise I hoped he wouldn't keep.

It would be better if he bombed the ISI building in the capital.

Reminds me of Nixons and his B52s bombing Cambodia.

    Change?

I don't know much about the situation in Pakistan, but this has gotta be a bad idea, right?

I can't imagine it being anything other than destabilising. How can they expect the Pakistani people to support any kind of a government (democratic or otherwise) that presides over military intervention of this nature by a foreign power?

Great news.It is time the Pak government were forced to face their complicity in aiding and abetting the Taliban. But I would prefer that the US take out high ranking ISI figures and rabble rousing mullahs. That'd soften their cough.

This is where the US should of targeted about 6/7 years ago.
The Taleban and some Al Q elements have been able to reform in these areas.
This is the biggest indicator of Bushs folly into Iraq.

I don’t think it is a good idea to be making attacks within Pakistani soil and it will only further increase resentment in the country to the West.

They really have to consider what is their end game here.
It would take a mighty effort to eradicate Al Q and Taleban elements.
Such a move would only raise hostilities and retaliation in the long term.

Who currently has access to Pakistani nukes? Is it the army or the ISI?

    So what's next?

The terrorists move from Balochistan into Sindh and the Yanks strike Sindh?

    What then?

    Attacking Punjab?

Yes anywhere where the medieval thinkers are harboured. After Balochistan is bomber Sindh and Punjab would get the message and refuse them sanctuary.

Where are the US getting target info? They don't have US spies on the ground - they wouldn't last two minutes. The Pakistani military might be feeding them info. Or maybe they are still talking to the ISI. Who knows whether their info is any good.

If I was the ISI, Id be feeding the locations of schools and hospitals to the US and telling them they are Al Q hideouts.
