Parents' Hospital Lawsuit Says Teen Was 'Killed' For Organs

Humanity appears to be on a slippery slope these days.

The parents of an 18-year-old who suffered a brain injury in a 2007 snowboarding accident say his doctors "intentionally killed" him to harvest his organs.

In the lawsuit filed this week in the U.S. District Court of Western Pennsylvania, Michael and Teresa Jacobs claim that doctors "hastened" their son Gregory Jacobs' death by delaying treatment and ultimately pulling his breathing tube, causing him to suffocate.

The couple said their son had not been formally declared brain dead when surgeons began the transplant procedure. They are seeking $5 million in damages.

    Settle down now!
Proceedings have just issued. The hospital are defending their actions fully. Wait and see what happens. If you accepted as fact what every Plaintiff says you would be quite often wrong!

But.. but ... but, the parents are claiming for damages. Surely they or their lawyers would not distort the truth if they stood to gain substantial financial payoff?

Are you referring to the Doctors or the Parents in that statement? Was just wondering considering that the organs probably saved lots of other lives and if the parents' case is ruled out then they should be considered in the same light as the recent g0bsh1te who tried to sue the hospital for preventing him making a video of his kid's birth.

I have read about the transplant issue and the ethical questions it sometimes raises, the human heart for example needs to be extracted immediately upon death, one researcher asked the question.. 'ok so they are still giving her CR, but now she is on a transplant list - a transplant team has been notified, at what stage do they decide to stop trying to revive her and switch to organ harvesting mode?'.

The Organ Donation Controversy - Associated Content

If you are an organ donor or are thinking of becoming an organ donor, you may want to rethink your decision. A controversial trend with organ donation and harvesting is on the rise. Doctors are requesting the donor's organs be removed only minutes after being declared dead, once theThe Organ Donation Controversy heart stops beating. The normal practice before, and dating back to the 1970's, involved the harvesting of the donor's organs only after the patient was actually declared brain dead.
Kidney donation perhaps seems less risky but i would be wary of donating an organ that has to be extracted as soon as possible upon my death, especially if they aren't even checking for brain death anymore. At some point they must just stop looking at you as a patient and start seeing you as spare parts.
