She was a bit unfortunate as she thought her remarks were off the record.

I always thought this would happen anyway.

Bit too Liberal/Leftie (in an American way) for my liking but on the other hand its good to see someone with Irish blood/connections in the White House:

    The President

    The Vice president

    &

    The Secretary of State.

Do you seriously think that makes an actual difference? I think it's a bit of an open secret at this stage that they all say they have Irish blood when going into the White House, it's got a lot to do with Irish America, probably.

No she has genuine Irish links as does the VP.

Obama has distant ancestors but thats about it and Hills knows Ireland pretty well for a holder of that Office.

I doubt any of them bar Obama would have to call for a briefing paper and for the Globe to be wheeled over to their desk to know about and where in the World that Ireland is situated.

How many other Countries on the Planet can say that?

This is pretty easy. In recent years foreign affairs have been conducted by the heads of governments not their foreign ministers. Both Susan Rice and Samantha Power are known to be close to Obama and are on his staff not the State Departments. Hillary got thrown a bone. She just didn't realise that it's damaged goods. Bush & Powell did him one favour at least. Reducing the position of Secretary of State to nothing.

I think it is more important that she has links to common sense and practicality BEFORE we claim her Irish roots are important to the objectives of her employer - yes politics will play its part but I hope it is because there are feet on the ground there that she has been chosen rather than simply being Irish as that would be ignorant and hubristic on our part.
