Immigration minister calls for changes in 'outdated' Geneva convention

I regret to inform you folks that this is not our own Conor Lenihan talking but Mr Phil Woolas, Britain's Immigration Minister.

Woolas said: "The Geneva convention was intended to protect individual people from persecution. A significant number of people who claim asylum are doing so for broadly economic reasons. So I think it is right we look at the framework, as indeed other European countries are doing."

Hopefully our Conor will now grow a pair and push for a meeting with the British Minister to arrange a joint strategy to tackle this problem.

Seeing as nearly all of the bogus Asylum Seekers here came through Britain first this would be an imperitive for any Government that is serious about tackling the issue!

Whether or not you believe immigration should be allowed for "economic reasons" it is clear that we must prioritise the small number of genuine asylum seekers. People being persecuted deserve a safe haven.

Same way we prosecute false rape claims : we should prosecute fake asylum seekers (and put them in a prison of the same standard as their home country)

Something needs to change quick regarding the Bogus claimants. Most of them are.

There are no direct flights to Ireland from any countries on the refugee list, so if they were genuine why didn't them claim asylum in the first safe country?

Well duh, they are economic spongers who have mastered the art of conning Western countries and cherry pick the one the like to look of.

I would dismantle to whole asylum system personally.. It's an abused joke.

Skilled immigrants are welcome, despots, low life unskilled scroungers are not, and these are mainly the ones who claim....Funny that.
