UN suspends Gaza opeation after worker killed

Breaking news on the CNN website -

U.N. aid agency says it is suspending activities in Gaza after truck driver killed by Israeli tank shell.

The U.N.’s main humanitarian aid group in Gaza has suspended its activities in the Palestinian territory. The announcement comes after Adnan Abu Hasna, a spokesman for the U.N Relief and Works Agency, told CNN that a UNRWA aid truck driver was killed by an Israeli tank shell near the Erez crossing.

UNRWA chief spokesman Chris Gunness said the agency will suspend its
activities until the Israeli military can guarantee the safety of its staff.
A regrettable, if predictable, outcome of the indiscriminate Israeli attacks. This means that the only independent voice from Gaza will now be silenced.

UN aid agency suspends work after Gaza strike - Times Online

“UNRWA decided to suspend all its operations in the Gaza Strip because of the increasing hostile actions against its premises and personnel,” Adnan Abu Hasna, the agency’s Gaza-based spokesman, said.

Richard Miron, a UN spokesman, said the Israeli army had been notified in advance about the UNRWA convoy, which was hit as it approached the Erez crossing with Israel. Two Palestinian forklift drivers were killed.

The Red Cross has accused Israel of failing to help wounded people in an area of Gaza where its rescuers found four children huddling next to their dead mothers.
The Israeli military 'failed to meet its obligation under international humanitarian law to care for and evacuate the wounded,' the International Committee of the Red Cross said in an unusually blunt statement.
It said Israeli soldiers tried to force Red Cross personnel to leave when they finally reached the area in Gaza City's battered Zeitun neighbourhood, four days after safe-passage had been requested

I suppose the Zionist supporters on this site will call the UN and Red Cross liars.

No prizes for guessing why journalists have yet to be allowed into Gaza.

Its clearly the UN and red cross peoples fault. Helping people is wrong. I strongly support Israel right, no, duty to crush those who defend the defenseless.

They are keeping international journalists out and are now forcing the UN out. An interesting pattern of behaviour from Israel.

America is the main culprit here with the use of the veto as Robert Fisk wrote yesterday.
Israel have reached the lowest of the low . It was obvious when the media was stopped from entering dirty deeds were going to be committed . The murder of children and a U.N.
official has destroyed any goodwill towards Israel, The world has had enough of this invasion and mass murder.

Unfortunately, the evidence would seem to suggest world leaders are perfectly fine with it.

Anyone listen to Matt Cooper just there. The guy from Amnesty accused the IDF of purposely putting civilians at risk and also using civilians as human shields. He also said that UN workers were being targetted by the IDF.

Any written down source of this accusation that anyone knows of?
