Why are you so certain that he was not involved in bribery?

Too high a risk, as Chief of Staff he is doing pretty well. Only reason to get involved in dumb bribery like this would be if he was a corruptomaniac (that's like a kleptomaniac).

Burris' own words are at the center of the firestorm, set off by his evolving explanation in a series of sworn statements that gradually revealed more and more contacts with allies of ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich. On Monday night, speaking to reporters in a largely uninterrupted explanation, Burris disclosed for the first time that he had sought unsuccessfully to raise money for Blagojevich at the same time he was expressing his interest in the Senate seat to a number of the governor's allies.

The disclosure called into question his longstanding assertion that there was never any discussion of him doing favors for the governor, who had sole authority to decide the appointment to the Senate seat Burris coveted.

Good thing Harry Reid et al pussed out after vowing not to seat him...that worked out well didn't it?

On a different note, look at this video, wouldn't it have been great if this was 2003, the US House of Representatives and the words Rod Blagojevich were replaced with "Geroge W Bush"?
