Well what is for certain is that we have past peak oil and developing countries are going to continue to demand more energy and food as their population grows. The West is f*cked. The debt levels as a percentage of income ranges from 300% to 1000% and cannot be serviced in the medium to long term. With increasing commodity prices, decreasing incomes, and now with the Feds running out of the Quantitative Easing program, increasing rates will collapse the system. Of course the solution they will go for to save their skin is war.
Tomorrow 6:15pm will give us some insight into the next moves of the Federal Reserve as the run out of their 1.25 Trillion MBS purchase program at the end of March. If they confirm that QE is going to end, that will signal Bond yields will rise leading to the rise in retail interest rates which will cripple income further.
If they have to continue with another QE program then that will weaken the dollar, causing more tension with the bond situation with China.
I expect a vague enough announcement. Keep interest rates at 0.25%. Will end the program of QE at the end of March but will leave the door open for more if need be the same way the UK did. Bottom line though QE can never end, it is infinite regression, but the Feds need to keep the markets calm.

I already answered this, and admitted where I'd been mistaken:
The predictions are quoted directly from the political leaders cited. There have been crises aplenty, notably the Israeli invasion of Palestine earlier this year and the serious war crimes committed against its people. Obama himself seriously threatened Iran at the start of his presidency and the US came very close to another so-called pre-emptive attack. Presently the rhetoric is once again being ratcheted up. Within the first couple of weeks Obama also authorised drone strikes against Pakistan killing dozens of civilians. The war there has turned a million people into refugees. In Afghanistan, despite committing to withdrawal, he has increased the number of troops to 100,000. All of this has contributed to his dwindling popularity in the polls. The swine flu outbreak led to the drafting of a martial law bill which was unanimously passed by the Massachusetts Senate in April. It does however appear that the concerns expressed about a coming North American Union may indeed be based on a myth, a myth which actually distracts attention away from the deeply unjust Security and Prosperity Partnership Agreement.
Why should the thread be deleted? As well as still being an active discussion, it has also become a storing house for information related to the concerns expressed in the title about the activities of largely US-based elite interests. This is actually what the admin team recommends as opposed to a proliferation of threads developing on closely related subjects as has occurred elsewhere.
The process of setting up global political institutions and reshaping the world economy, of gaining control of the remaining energy sources and food staples, of implementing worldwide depopulation policies, of recreating feudal conditions through the Green Revolution and argibusiness, whether one calls this process the New World Order, globalisation, world corporatism, or bureaucratic collectivism or whatever is essentially irrelevant. The descriptive term is not important but rather the reality described.
The one thing it can no longer be called though is a conspiracy theory. It is mainstream. Hence the 2008 book by political scientist David Rothkopf:
Superclass- The Global Power Elite and the World They Are Making
in which he "argues that the world population of 6 billion people is governed by an elite of 6000 individuals." And who is Rothkopf? Someone who can hardly be airily dismissed-
Just as we have American military dominance- Full Spectrum Dominance- exercised globally by proxy totalitarian democracies headed by puppets, those pushing the genocidal programmes referred to in part below are based in the US, backed by the Rockefellers, who have been interested in depopulation since the thirties of the last century- their scientists conducted sterilisation and other kinds of experiments on Puerto Ricans at that time, taking advantage of the fact that Puerto Rico was outside American jurisdiction. They have been behind all the major depopulation programmes and policies of the last century. Their most famous protege Henry Kissinger, plucked from obscurity, wrote National Security Study Memorandum 200. NSSM 200 classified third world population growth as a threat to US security. US access to strategic raw materials in developing countries was to be ensured by tying aid to these countries to severe population control programmes. Complementing this, supposedly independent NGOs were also to be involved in advancing population control programmes. NSSM 200 was adopted as official US policy by President Gerald Ford....David Rothkopf, a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, specializing in U.S. foreign policy and economic strategy, as well as an international business consultant and professor. He served as the Deputy Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade during the administration of Bill Clinton. After leaving Commerce, Rothkopf became managing director of Kissinger and Associates in January 1996"
The world is increasing dependent on mineral supplies from developing countries, and if rapid population growth frustrates their prospects for economic development and social progress, the resulting instability may undermine the conditions for expanded output and sustained flows of such resources. (NSSM 200, April 24, 1974)
The US can help to minimize charges of imperialist motivation behind its support of population activities by repeatedly asserting that such support derives from a concern with...
Thirteen countries in particular were highlighted including India, Nigeria, Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, and Colombia. Kissinger argued that only a drastic reduction in their populations would allow continued exploitation of their resources.
In 1991, the Brazilian government was shocked to find that 44% of all Brazilian women aged 14 to 55 had been sterilised. 90% of Brazilian women of African descent had been sterilised. At the time Brazilians of African descent constituted half of Brazil's population. After learning of the existence of NSSM 200, a congressional investigation was demanded by more than 165 Brazilian legislators. The sterilisations, the government discovered, had been carried out by a number of NGOs including International Planned Parenthood Federation, all sponsored by the US Agency for International Development.
Professor Nicholas Hagger's analysis of these concerns is entitled simply The Syndicate. Edward Garnier, a former Tory party Shadow Attorney General, reviewed the whole book before publication for accuracy, advising from the perspective of his own knowledge of politicians and public figures.
Towards the end of the book, Professor Haigger analyses Global 2000 Report to the President which was released in 1980, and particularly the policy recommendations which appeared in an additional report Global Future: Time to Act in 1981. These were in direct ideological continuity with the earlier memorandum. The tenor of these reports based on the modelling of estimated population growth was that radical action was required to ensure "sustainable development." Global Future estimated that aggressive family planning, sterilisation, contraception and abortion might reduce the population by 4.16 billion. Yet even this let a "half-declared ambiguity regarding 2 billion people (ie. 6.18 billion minus 4.16 billion- a third of mankind on its present total of just over 6 billion)."
The conclusion is unstated by the Reports' authors but others were in no doubt as to the intended meaning. Executive Intelligence Review entitled its critique of the Report: Global 2000, Blueprint for Genocide. They wrote "Global 2000 and Global Future are correctly understood as political statements of intent- the intent on the part of such policy centres as the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and the International Monetary Fund [the groups who commissioned the Reports], to pursue policies that will result not only in the death of the 170 million cited in the Reports but in the death of upwards of 2 billion people..."
The Reports explicitly advocate the restriction of scientific development including nuclear energy, and food production in developing countries. Loans became conditional "on reducing imports of food and fuel, cutting investment in industry, decreasing food subsidies while increasing their crop exports" [Ring a 19th century bell?] The Reports also point to the population regulating functions of wars and famine. Since the Report both have been commonplace in developing countries but, strangely, largely absent elsewhere.
"There is surely something strange going on." notes Haigger pointing to the butter mountains and milk lakes in Europe, along with the farming quotas entailing mass deliberate waste while "one fifth of the world's population is on the starvation line, or under it."
Further on he adds, "In 2002 the US was blocking an international plan to halve, by 2015, the 2.4 billion people around the world who lack even a bucket for their wastes- one of the main causes of disease. The US gave no clear reason for their objection to the sanitation plan at a meeting at Bali, which was to prepare for an international earth summit." (pg 272)

I agree Martino,
T.A. world events are fluid and thus predictions for what its worth are useless. So far I have read here and in other threads about the imminent collapse of the dollar, the collapse of the Euro, a new world currency, with fluctuations on the markets making such statements true one month and false another; but trends are obvious and whether it is THE NWO or A NWO, it is coming. There is an ever increasing concentration of power, wealth and influence among the few and too many nations no longer have control over their own money supply (currency), their own banking system, their own food supply and their own energy; instead of mutual interdependence we have captive dependence, a kind of contingent slavery, and the thread explores the question whether it is a sinister orchestration, or a natural political evolution, or both, presently I tend towards the latter, because there are simply too many variables that cannot be controlled.
You cannot deny though that the phrase NWO has now taken on positive connotations, and world leaders are not reluctant to use it anymore, knowing that people are now positively disposed or brainwashed, depending on your point of view , to welcome it, the fear factor a la Lisbon, extreme environmentalism, exaggerated terrorist threats, make this so. From Obama to Browne, NWO is the new politcal buzzword that humanity is embracing, it has even appeared in a recent papal encyclical.
For what its worth I think this is one of the most fascinating and interesting threads going, with very articulate and well informed views from opposing camps.

I've read Wolin's book, his theory of inverted totalitarianism is precautionary and he stipulates that it is not yet realized, merely an eventuality should certain trends maintain their course. It may do so in the not so distant future should the revolving door between financial corporations, the military industrial complex and the executive branch continue to consolidate power to the exclusion of democratic franchise.
I'm not sure sure where you found the synopsis quoted in your post, but Wolin lays much of what has come to pass at the feet of neo-conservative republicanism and the Democrats' complicity and week opposition.
The charaterisation of 'liberal' ideology does not feature as culpable in Wolin's narritive, however 'liberal' seems to be open to much diverse interpretation these days.

Sowing the seeds of destruction:
From F Willliam Engdahl's Seeds of DestructionThe days are long past when the USDA represented the interests of America's family farmers. Today, US agri-business, dominated by a dozen or more giant international concerns, is the second most profitable industry next to pharmaceuticals, and has annual value of well over $800 billion. The USDA today is the organized lobby of agri-business giants, none more influential than Monsanto...
Terminator and related GM technologies in the hands of Monsanto and less than half-a-dozen corporations worldwide, backed by the USDA, Defense Department and State Department, could open the door to potential forms of biological warfare against entire populations not imagined before. A recent US Air Force study states that "biological weapons offer greater possibilities for use than do nuclear weapons."
Washington US-AID food assistance for Africa in recent months has been linked to willingness of a country to accept US GM crops. US assistance to combat AIDS in Africa has similar strings. GM has clearly become a strategic, geopolitical tool for Washington.
Defenders of GM technology argue that no one in their right mind would consider such a drastic use of GM crops as to control entire areas of world food supply. "We're tempted to say that nobody in their right mind would ever use these things." Stanford biology professor Steven Block stated in another context. Block hastened to add, "But not everybody is in their right mind!" Block, a leading consultant to the US Government, went on to warn, "Any technology that can be used to insert genes into DNA can be used for either good or bad." Genetic engineering can create rice with enhanced vitamin A, but can just as well create seeds containing highly toxic bacteria. US researchers first did this in 1986. Genetic engineering of more toxic and harder to detect bioweapons was a major motivation for nations to call for a stronger convention on bioweapons.
