Tony Benn is indeed one of the finest politicians to ever come out of Britain. As minister for technology in the 1970s he was absolutely magnificent.Is there a particular reason you're sharing that with us now ?

Amazing more wasn't made of his visit here in the days before the referendum to scare monder for the No side. He left it late enough that his main point, fear that Lisbon would undermine Nato , didn't get through to the anti war crowd No lobby.

Tony Benn's speech against Maastricht, in November 1991, in the Commons. I remember it very well, as I was living in England at the time. Powerful stuff. A good man.
