It was just on the BBC news that several well known UK business people are currently in Iceland negotiating buyouts of all those Icelandic owned UK brands (Hamleys, Oasis, etc)

I wonder how much Brown's over the top reaction was motivated towards helping UK business people get a good price for these companies?

No, cant agree. The Icelandic PM gets to shrug his shoulders and the British people get shafted and accused of being greedy.... that is hardly a credable position. The likely upshot of this is that the billions that tiny Iceland has in investments will be foisted over to the British tax payer. Football clubs and high street chain stores in the UK, all owned by businessmen from a country of 300,00 thousand. Britian will own Iceland when the dust settles, that much is clear. European law make Iceland responsible for this mess whether they like it or not.

    In short, Iceland is f**ked.

The problem Brown had with Iceland is that he kept bumping into John Prescott there. He shops at Tescos now.

TimesOnline: "Gordon Brown's raid on Iceland was cowardice, not courage"

Shall I tell you the worst thing about this wretched business? Worse than the return of socialism, worse than the indenturing of our children? It's the way we've treated Iceland, until last week perhaps the most Anglophile country in Europe.

To seize the assets of a friendly state was bad enough; to use anti-terrorist legislation was unforgivable. When the Crime and Security Act was passed in 2001, we were repeatedly told that it would be used only in cases of imminent danger: “If you've nothing to hide, you've nothing to fear.”

Nothing to fear, eh? Since then it has been invoked to eject a heckler from the Labour conference, to detain a woman walking on a cycle path and to prevent recitation of the names of fallen servicemen at the Cenotaph. Now this.

Gordon Brown claims that the expropriation was necessary because Iceland planned to default on British Icesave accounts. How he got this impression is a mystery. Iceland's finance minister made clear in meetings with the British authorities that depositors would be paid. The Prime Minister, Geir Haarde, said in public: “We will immediately review the matter together to find a mutually satisfactory solution. We are determined to make sure that the current financial crisis does not overshadow the important and longstanding friendship that we have with the UK.”

Brown's response? To seize the UK assets, not of the bank that ran Icesave, but of a wholly unrelated bank, Kaupthing, thereby collapsing it.
Of course Brown's aggressive stance towards Iceland may have just a little to do with Russia's agreement to inject large amounts of capital into that country, thus strengthening their relationship. Though Murdoch Sky News, who has been trumping up this Iceland savings story to fever pitch levels, will not tell you that.

Marxists, Feminists and Leftists operate on the basis of "liberating tolerance" - i.e. their ideas should be tolerated, and any opposition should be suppressed.
