The BBC is reporting that 7 Russian soldiers have been killed by an explosion in South Ossetia.
The explosion happened when a vehicle which had been confiscated from an "ethnic Georgian village" exploded back at a Russian military base.
The South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity is quoted as saying that the blast was a "deliberate terrorist act prepared by the Georgian Security Ministry."
The Georgian Interior Minister responded to the claims by dismissing them and claiming that the move was a "provocation" which is intended to keep the Russians in Georgia.
It will be interesting to see how Russia reacts to this militarily, as well as whether they lay the blame for the blast on ethnic Georgian militants or the Georgian security forces. As the Georgian Interior Minister suggested, this could give the Russians the excuse they've been looking for to maintain their positions in both south Ossetia and Abkhazia, as well as the "buffer zones" which have been erected around both regions. This could make some very interesting viewing yet.
