Is it something to do with spotting camouflage, or wiring explosives wrong or what?

Colour blindness will stop you being accepted as a recruit. A red/green problem would be bad. Warnings are in red but the background colour can be green, if you can't differentiate between them, the warning is no good. Some safety light systems use the same light location for green and red. There are too many situations in the military where being able to distinguish between colours is vital.

Some colourblind people can see through camouflage much better than normal vision. The colour fragmentation doesn't effect them as much.
I'm not sure WHICH color blind I am, I've no problem telling the diffrence between red and green in any situation.

Its only dark colors like dark brown and dark green I would find some difficulty seperating

Still won't be accepted. It'd be so much easier if you had one testicle.
Every one sees what you appear to be, few really know what you are, and those few dare not oppose themselves to the opinion of the many, who have the majesty of the state to defend them.

Essentially it comes down to health and safety. Nothing massively exciting like bomb defusion or anything.

Are you actually colour blind though?

Health and safety is so vague tho, my boss at work tells me putting the boxes in one corner instead of the other is a health and safety thing, seems like a vague way of sayin "JUST COS!"

Yeh I am, took the test with the circles and numbers when I was a kid

Right. In that case, chances are you'll be refused.

Anyone know if colour blindness can get better in time?

I'm not a fan of most health and safety practices. For example, if you want to climb a ladder, it has to be tied at the top. How the ************************ are you meant to tie it first?[/quote:2nuspzho]

Most types of colour blindness is genetic, not much to be done about it, unfortunately.

Universal could have some of my cone pigmentation, if he wants. I'm visually colour sensitive. That can hurt.

I think mostly explosives, most dangerous articles might be colour coded, like the detenators inside hand grenades for instance. There can be a very big differance between the lenght (with regard to time) of fuses depending on the colour of the fuse. Getting that wrong once could cost an arm.
