Who had the greater impact on the 20th Century

Did Nelson Mandela or Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn have a greater impact on the 20th Century?

i would have said Solzhenitsyn. read his book "we never make mistakes". absolutely brilliant.

he gave the insider view of the failings of communism.

mandela, while he did important things, only really achieved something at the end of the 20th century, and in one country, and who's followers seem to be screwing things up.

In Mandela's case it's too early to say. You never know what he might get up to in his twilight years.

Seriously though, I'd say the fall of the Soviet Union was a more major event than the fall of Apartheid.
But did Solzhenitsyn bring down the Soviet Union single-handedly? Certainly not. Credit must be shared between Gorbachev, Yeltsin, Lech Walesa and JP II and yes, *spit* Ronald *choke splutter* Reagan *spit spit*.
And even if literary figures are to be included, Solzhenitsyn had no monopoly.

And oh boy are they screwing it up. Over a million Whites have already had to leave. It won't be long before its another Zimbabwe.

In fact, whoever had the bright idea of letting visitors from East Germany to Hungary to travel onwards to Austria in 1989 was a vital lynchpin in the fall of communism.

Why do you feel the need to insult me using swear words? You can't be sued because the site is hosted in America I believe which stops libel actions being brought. I SUPPORTED apartheid being ended because I thought it would be more fair. Sadly the ANC (and Mandela has to take some of the blame for this) is completely corrupt. The country has now the highest levels of rape and murder in the world. A few google searches reveals this.I'm sorry but I don't go along with the deification of Mandela. Although Mbeki and the corrupt moron Zuma are far worse.

"The trial also generated political controversy when Zuma, who headed the National AIDS Council, admitted that he had not used a condom when having sex with the woman who now accuses him of rape, despite knowing that she was HIV-positive. He stated in court that he took a shower to try to reduce his risk of infection, upsetting HIV educators who emphasized that this would do nothing to prevent HIV transmission"

Basically you're at your "white flight" stuff again.
The clear implication being that white=honest, white=victim and of course vice versa.

agreed. didn't david mcwilliams name the guard at the checkpoint and give a bit of his background in one of his articles. not sure if he took artistic liberty to prove his point (that irish boom was due to cheap credit due to unification of germany)

I wouldnt bother with him QM, his attempts to mask racism in reasonable debate is ultimately flawed as he's an idiot.
