PLO asylum seekers queue to seek refuge in Israel

Members of the PLO Fatah organisation have queued to seek political asylum in Israel. Initially Mahmoud Abbas requested their return to Gaza and Hamas guaranteed their safety. However when reports began to break that the 30 returnees were being tortured on their return to Gaza, Israel reversed it's decision and has now granted the remaining 150 PLO members political asylum.

What you mean the vile wicked Zionists are giving them asylum? You mean they prefer Israeli custodu to Hamas? Muj, Doc thoughts?

Not according to the link you posted? That says they will send them to the West Bank.

I can't understand that to be honest. I had heard that they did ask for asylum in Israel and Israeli civil rights groups were trying to get them asylum in Israel, but why would Israel want them? If they want to escape persecution by Hamas, then it would make more sense for their Fatah comrades to take them in on the West Bank. If the Arabs in Gaza want to ethnically cleanse other Arabs from Gaza then that's not an Israeli problem. It would be madness for Israel to take them

Yes, Israel has granted them political asylum in the West Bank. I don't understand your comment.

Fair enough. Just wanted to be sure I was reading it correctly and that you consider the West Bank (and specifically Ramallah as mentioned, headquarters of the PA) to be Israel.

Re: PLO asylum seekers queue to seek refuge in Israel

It also seems that Fatah's leader, Abbas, in the West Bank was initially saying the refugees should be sent back to Gaza. He didn't want them coming to the West Bank, despite the danger to their lives if they were returned to Gaza. He wanted them returned so there would still be a Fatah presence there. He only changed his mind after 30 people, who had already been returned to Gaza, were immediately arrested by Hamas when they got back. It's odd though, they see Israel as the enemy, but at the first sign of Arab persecution they ask Israel to protect them and give them asylum. Just what Israel needs - a bus load of Palestinian fighters. Thank God common sense prevailed and they are going to their own in the West Bank.
