PLO asylum seekers queue to seek refuge in Israel

Just wanted to be sure I was reading it correctly and that you consider the West Bank (and specifically Ramallah as mentioned, headquarters of the PA) to be Israel.

The latest news is that the refugees have been granted asylum in Jaricho, rather than ramallah as initially planned.

A two-bus convoy was escorted by Israeli police and army vehicles on Monday to a security compound controlled by forces under the command of Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president.

Yoav Mordechai, head of Israel's civil army administration in the West Bank, said Israel relocated the Palestinians at the request of Abbas's government "as a humanitarian gesture".

"[Israel] decided to take the humanitarian decision to transfer to Jericho 87 residents of the Shijaia neighbourhood in Gaza because of the violence carried out by Hamas," he said.

"We talked with them on the bus and we told them that Jericho and the West Bank are different from the Gaza Strip and that the Israeli army controls this region. They have to respect the law."

I'm not making a political point as to whether Jericho part of Israel. Israel has granted them asylum there as it is under their control.

That makes a lot more sense. It just seemed an odd way of putting it originally when the link was suggesting Ramallah.
