The Scotland Yard's 2006 botched anti-terror raid on Muslim homes in London's Forest Gate area has cost it more than £2.2 million in costs and compensations, The Mail reported on Monday, June 16.
About £1,843,400 was paid to officers involved in raiding the house of two Muslim brothers in Forest Gate, East London, on claims that there was a "dirty bomb" in the house. Mohammed Abdul Kahar, now 25, was arrested along with his 23-year-old brother Abul Koyair, who was shot in the shoulder. The raid also left the family's house totally destroyed.
The brothers were released without charge after a week of questioning at the high-security Paddington Green police station. The police salaries bill was about £979,100 and the overtime bill was of £864,000, according to the daily. Another £156,900 was spent on equipment for the raid, such as chemical and biological suits and thermal imaging equipment. Some £120,800 was the cost of repairing several Muslim houses severely damaged, including catering costs and erecting barriers for public safety. Adding to the raid's expensive bill, the police agreed to pay the two Muslim brothers more than £60,000 in compensation. http://www.islamonline.net/servlet/S...News/NWELayout. Perhaps the Afghanis who were subject to a botched job of the part of Irish Gardai should seek similar compensation.
