Well, I would not want them to pledge a huge amount of money that would end up into the hands of the military who run the country, so it is probably appropriate!

Much safer to pledge food and materials to corrupt countries in such cases, although they can still be used in corrupt ways I'm guessing not as easy.

    Agree with you there

I wonder though is charity fading here with all the issues and problems with our own country and personal money crunches........ At the time of the Tsunami in Thailand we were much safer in a monetary sense.......?

Hey, we have a strong record of being more charitable then many western countries. I think, whilst we have as a whole become more wealthy, our sense of charity and goodwill will not disappear, well maybe if those jerks who stand around trying to sign you up for charities are not made illegal soon!

As uncharitable as this sounds, until the regime let Irish NGO's into the country to administer any Irish aid donations I would be very reluctant to donate anything which may be misused by the Burmese government

Might as well burn the money for all the good it will do.

It is extremely unlikely that the money will be given to the govt, probably be a grant to WFP or ICRC/IFRC.

Is it that you think that it is no where near enough or that it wont be used properly......?
