Immigration: The Inconvenient Truth - A UK perspective

I watched the last of this series last night and could see comparisions with our experiences.

"Rageh Omaar investigates how immigration has affected Britain. Using Enoch Powell's explosive 'Rivers of Blood' speech as a starting point, Rageh explores whether the apocalyptic visions of 40 years ago have any basis in today's reality."

Re: Immigration: The Inconvenient Truth - A UK perspective

I thought the report was balanced and a worthwhile topic for discussion. Unfortunately it seems to be a topic that no politician here or in the UK is willing to talk about for fear of being labelled a racist. While I'm sure very few people are opposed to immigration as such, unchecked and uncontrolled immigration in a country that likes to see itself as using the multi-cultural model only seems to raise fears and tensions between the races as well as setting up segregated societies living cheek by jowel with one another.
A problem I have with the immigration laws is that they are made by people that for whom the laws they have us live by are of little or no affect on the lawmakers lives. Politicians are unlikely to find their jobs undercut by Polish politicians willing to do the job for cheaper Their children in the most part would probably attend private schools so no overcrowded classrooms with a stressed out teacher trying their best to teach to a multitude of languages.
Unchecked immigration and the freedom for people to move around Europe at their own whim is presumably something that is going to be exploited to the maximum by criminals, just look at the case of the Newstalk reporter stabbed in Dublin by a Polish criminal. Immigration does have some (small) benefits but a country should only take in people needed to the economy and or a reasonable amount of immigrants that the health and social systems can deal with.
