That's 2% better than the national media said he'd do.

Well the game seems to be up for Mugabe, a comprehensive defeat. If he leaves peacefully now he might still retain some respect for being a democrat.

Hopefully he won't pull a bogus election result out of a hat such as a 52% share of the vote.

Still no word of a result. It must be that the authorities are trying to rig the results.

Hopefully the opposition will not take such fraud lying down, and will use whatever methods are necessary to get rid of Mugabe

First results have been published - and they claim to show that Mugabe and the MDC are running neck and neck!

    Opposition tallies

The opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) said that unofficial tallies show its leader Morgan Tsvangirai has 60% of the presidential vote, twice the total for Mr Mugabe, with more than half the results counted.

I am not sure ZANU PF will even take an obviously fixed result lying down. The chances of Mugabe getting the 51% percent needed for a run off are slim to say the least as his vote will be eroded by his ex-finance minister.

There's no way he can win fairly. He's on record as saying that the MDC will never rule Zimbabwe. If the MDC claim victory things could turn violent, unless the ordinary rank and file police officers/soldiers refuse to obey orders. Apparently there's serious opposition in the police and military to Mugabe continuing - the senior people are willing to ditch him provided they get guarantees that they won't be put on trial for their actions under his rule.
