US to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Story here - US to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital in world first - BBC News

First Trump has gone after the Islamic radicals in Saudi, Qatar, Iran and the rest of the middle east.

Now this. - The Jerusalem issue is one of the central point for today's Islamic radicals.

I think Arafat summed this up well after the signing of the Oslo accords in this speech:

    http://www.textfiles.com/politics/arafat.txt (a must read, BTW).

Or, in the radicalised Palestinians who the clerics deploy as pawns, again they always explicitly say that Jerusalem is the central issue for them.

This is going to set the Islamicists right off, no doubt about it.

Not to mention Iran. E.g. khameini's #HandsOffAlAqsa hastag.

(#WestBank should be armed just like #Gaza. Friends of Palestine should do their best to arm People in West Bank.#HandsOffAlAqsa)

    EDIT - Let's not forget Iran's annual "Jerusalem Day" either - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quds_Day

PS Jerusalem has been the central issue for Islamic radicals ever since Amin Al-Husseini the Mufti of Jerusalem restored Al Aqsa at huge expense in 1922. He also had the dome gold-plated for the first time.

It then became a prominent site for Islam.

    Al-Aqsa AFTER 1922:

Or, how are Hamas likely to react?

    HAMAS CHARTER:

"We should not forget to remind every Moslem that when the Jews conquered the Holy City in 1967, they stood on the threshold of the Aqsa Mosque and proclaimed that "Mohammed is dead, and his descendants are all women. Israel, Judaism and Jews challenge Islam and the Moslem people. "May the cowards never sleep." (Hamas Charter, Article 28)

"It is necessary to instill in the minds of the Moslem generations that the Palestinian problem is a religious problem, and should be dealt with on this basis. Palestine contains Islamic holy sites. In it there is al- Aqsa Mosque which is bound to the great Mosque in Mecca in an inseparable bond as long as heaven and earth speak of Isra` and Mi'raj. "(Hamas Charter, Article 15)

"The Islamic Resistance Movement, being based on the common coordinated and interdependent conceptions of the laws of the universe, and flowing in the stream of destiny in confronting and fighting the enemies in defence of the Moslems and Islamic civilization and sacred sites, the first among which is the Aqsa Mosque" (Hamas Charter, Article 33)

The above kind of religious tripe is ubiquitous in the territories, BTW. E.g.

AL-AQSA TELEVISION STATION BROADCAST IN THE PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES:

"Sanabel, what do you want to do to help the Al-Aqsa Mosque?" Farfur asks on the children's program of Hamas's Al-Aqsa television station. "We want to fight." "And what else?" "Wipe out the Jews."

    Etc.

Whatís America getting for this? You give something, you get something. I donít see the transaction here politically. Which makes one very suspicious that Don has been learning from his Russian friends and is looking to line his pockets for the next campaign and beyond.

Every US president would wish for the legacy of having brought peace to the middle east.

It has to be acknowledged, Trump is going after the central issue here.

What’s Israel conceding in this deal? What are they giving up?

What do you mean? Israel has always demonstrated willingness to make concession after concession.

It was the fallout of that post Oslo and Camp David that lead to their general marked swing to the right, after those concessions resulted in a significant INCREASE in attacks, rather than the expected peace and improvements.
