Does the president of Cyprus have similar large powers within his country like that of the president of France?

Quite similar which in a small country makes more sense.

Ah well Brits only have to drive out of their areas to overthrow him.

What I've heard from people who have been to Cyprus is that the Russian mafia owns most of the real estate on the island. Probably a bit exaggerated but there must be a grain of truth about it.

Even on the official level, Russians and (Greek) Cypriots have quite close relations.
