Irishwoman to face military court in Egypt!

Galway Peace Campaigner, Treasa Ni Cheannabhain (56), has been arrested and ordered to face a military court in Egypt.

She was arrested earlier this week at the Gaza/Egypt border, alongside her daughter, Nasrin.

Is it not time the Irish Goverment demand her immediate release?

For what? She knew well she should not have crossed but did.

She and her daughter were refused entry into Gaza but entered illegally by wearing full length niquabs. She now wants to get back legally having admitted she went in illegally? Did she spend her previous holiday in Colombia doing a spot of bird watching then??

I doubt if Iveagh House will spend much effort on getting her out of trouble with her adopted homeland given the coolness of Dermot Ahern's response this week.

    yep...must agree

this woman is no victim, she was fully aware of the consequences of her actions and went ahead with them.

She received state help to return to egypt and now must face the music.........we really must stop indulging the nonsence of theese people.......

She has chosen to make Egypt her home. She should raise these issues with an Egyptian MP if she thinks the law is being applied incorrectly.

Why? She was denied entry into Gaza by Egypt, did she think they didn't really mean it?

I'm surprised at attitudes here; Treasa Ni Cheannabhain is still an Irish citizen and should be treated with respect by the Egyptian government....

If not, then the Irish government should make the proper representations to Egypt!

Look what happened to Irish citizens in England during the 1970's! It took our govenment years to properly represent them

The fool, for her trying to be a charitable person. I mean the audacity of that woman to try and deliver money to starving gazans. Who does she think she is?

Is there any suggestion that she hasn't been treated with respect? There's a big difference between calling for the Irish government to ensure that she is treated humanely, that her rights aren't violated and that, if she goes to trial, she is tried fairly, and saying that the government should call for her immediate release.
