It's a Centred country. Centrist parties FF and FG have around 70%+ of the vote. But it's to the economic Right of most Western EU states in terms of economic management, though economically slightly to the Left of Britain due to the large public-sector in Ireland.

FF is hardly centre-right given its traditional cosiness with the unions. Remember Dermo Ahern speaking out against privatisation of the ESB a few yrs back.

So FF against privitisation are they? Funny way of showing it. Anyway I said perceived, I don't believe either are but that's what they tell you in college unfortunately.

Neither. Your average Irish person would probably not identify with either left or right but would embrace aspects of both. So I think centrist would be the fairest label you could use.
