    Mary Robinson and Global Elders

Mary Robinson has been on the radio promoting here role in the so-called 'Global Elders' www.theelders.org. Roisin Ingle, in her usual insightful manner, stubbornly refused to ask Mrs Robinson about whether or not she is comfortable with the presence of Mr Li Zhaoxing as an elder.

Mr Li, communist China's former Foreign Minister, famously said about the Tiananmen Square massacre:
what happened that long ago was entirely and still is China's internal matters, and probably decisions made by the government in 1989 has proved to be the right option. Without what government had done, China wouldn't be able to enjoy the stability and the economic prosperity as it is enjoying today.

So, is it right that Mary Robinson, a self-appointed champion of human rights, sits on a committee with a communist who minimises the tragedy that saw at least 3,000 students murdered?

Nothing will motivate the lazy / apathetic / Americanised / west-British types to embrace their culture and the Irish language.

I came to scoff but, apart from the Chinese bloke and Jimmy Carter, that is a rather decent bunch of people. It might end up just a talking shop, but I hope they can put their experience to practical use.

If Mary Robinson was a FFer and a conservative you'd be singing her praises. But she's not a FFer and not a conservative, and those two things bug you. So when the mood takes you, try and make up yet another excuse for a bit of Robinson-bashing.

    How pathetic.

Come off it - this woman has been treated with kid gloves by the Irish media for years - it's almost considered a 'thought crime' to criticize her in some circles.

Vastly overated IMO - high on verbiage and low on content.

You're so petty. Do you want to try and address the issue rather than attack me? Are you happy that she's sitting on a comittee with an apologist for mass murder?
