US Admit Iran Not Developing Nuclear Weapons

US Secret Report Admits Tehran Has no Nuclear Weapons

Us intelligence chiefs have today admitted that Iran stopped it Nuclear programme as far back as 2003, despite claims since then by US officials that Iran is still developing weapons.

Despite the fact that many have had their own suspicions, could this be the first piece of evidence to clearly indicate that the US government has been lying and exaggerating all along?

Personally I was never a great believer in what the US authorities have had to say, especially since no WMD were found in Iraq, so this doesn't surprise me in the slightest. What does surpris me though is the fact that the US are now admitting Iran has no nuclear weapons despite repeated claims from officials that the Iranians do have, or are very close to having, nuclear capabilities.

The GWB administration admitting it was wrong..... there must be a weird truth-inducing virus doing the rounds in DC!

Edit: Also worth noting that report states Iran would not be technically capable of producing enough Plutonium to make a weapon before 2015!

If this is true, for the US this is a big if, then how are the neo-cons going to excuse the invasion of Iran to secure their high quality oil?

Or the military has put pressure on the intelligence people to derail Bush?

More likely Roc is right. With the world's oil supplies on tenterhooks, war against Iran could mean severe economic shock - a price the US believes not worth paying.

Big deal ...the fact (as this report indicates) is that Iran is still developing its Nuclear programme and may in a few short years have enough to produce Nuclear weapons.

But the report warned Iran is continuing to enrich uranium, which means it may still be able to develop a weapon between 2010 and 2015.

Real simple choice here - either Uncle Sam rises to the challenge or the Israelis go ahead on a solo run...

There has been talk of a civil war between the pentagon and the state department since before the Iraq invasion.
It is quite possible that this was a leak designed to scuttle Bush's plans for invasion.

Bush/cheney is known for his 'Stay the course' single mindedness.

Hopefully this is a sign that he has either been forced to retreat, or that he is losing control of the military
Actual morality is doing what is right regardless of what you're told. Religious morality is doing what you're told, regardless of if it's right.

Certainly not with their economy in the state it is now.

Catalpa: I don't think Israel will go on any solo run. It would simply be too dangerous. If the US can't back the Israeli's up then they are fooked. Without the US behind them, Israel is useless.

Or rats deserting a sinking ship ?

But who needs centerfuges when a kilogram of enriched uranium was for sale in Slovakia for $1m (€682,000).

A really worrying story from last Thursday's Guardian.

I think you're right, Ibis. The US military are none too happy with the Bush Administration, particularly after the unsuccessful attempt to deploy 6 nuclear weapons back in August. It could also be the case that after the joint US/Israeli airstrike on Syria went pear-shaped, they now have no alternative but to backtrack.
