No...it's the new consitution that's dipping his popularity at home, except with the mobs in the favelas of Caracas.
Chavez was huffing on about a democratically elected PM being a fascist. That's a strong word for any diplomat or senior politician to use, and he should have apologised when requested to do so, not to continually interrupt. I laughed a lot when I heard about this story but no... the King shouldn't have responsed in the way he did.
And the reason Ortega's bandwagonning with Chavez isn't getting much mention is because Ortega isn't an international figure of ridicule and hilarity.
"Unless you are an absolute pacifist, then you acknowledge that there are times when taking up arms is appropriate."

If you look two posts above you, you'll see nawbut's post and this "Chavez was referring to Aznar (with his formative Falange origins) when he used the term fascist. " Is Aznar still elected?

Guess who the first government to come out and support the minority led coup against Chavez was? Why it was Aznar's very own Spanish government, which was then closely followed by the US.

What marks Chavez out for me is his extraordinary restraint, at home and abroad, and this was a most measured response. Particularly given the Spanish antics leading up to it, on what's best for Latin America re foreign investment, and the surrounding history.

And the 'Shut up' Chavez ringtone has become a surprise hit in Spain and Venezuela.

The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.
