    School-massacre in Finland

At least eight people have died in a school-shooting incident in Finland today. A deranged 18-year old student started shooting at his fellow pupils in the middle of a class.

The noteworthy thing is that he had yesterday informed of his actions on a video on YouTube but apparently wasnīt taken seriously. He was said to be an extremist in his political views, he idolised both Hitler and Stalin.

He is currently in a critical condition in hospital as he shot himself in the head as he apparently attempted suicide.

Not in the same degree as in America but an honest person without a police-record has no difficulty in acquiring one.

Are we talking about simple hunting rifles, or can the 'honest person' buy a handgun or an Uzi?

Would a bit of common decency not be in order considering the nature of the thread?

My sympathy to the victims and their families. Those countries with liberal gun-laws would do well to reflect on these tragic events. Finland is one such country.

I canīt really answer that question as I have no experience of getting a gun. However, it was not long time ago reported that there are more guns in Finnish homes than in any other European country. Of course for hunting purposes mainly.

I was in Finland a few weeks ago and was in a few ordinary supermarkets which stocked rifles and handguns (but they cant sell hard liquour like wine). The supermarket with the biggest gun range that I saw doesnt sell beer for religious reasons. Odd, but then again everyone does military service so most would be trained in how to use guns properly (dont forget Russia is next door).
