Greece to cut 15,000 public sector jobs at the behest of their creditors

BBC News 24 are reporting that Greece has agreed with their creditors to cut 15,000 public sector jobs. These will be the first public sector job losses since the crisis began.

Also, the fact that creditors are being reported as directly dictating these measures would seem to be a new departure.

The former Greek finance minister was on the radio this morning saying they needed to cut 100,000 this year.

How many public sector workers do they have?

Well Greece has a population of over 10 million and has over 177k in their armed forces.
While we, population over 4 million have a defence forces of 9.5k.

Using your comparative figures above . . .you could take any OECD country and compare it with Ireland for any Government department and you'll find there are less workers comparatively in Ireland due to years of massive underfunding in the public sector.

Surely this is not the first raft of public sector job losses.
They certainly have taken massive pay cuts to date. I am sure the announcements of the last 18 months have included public sector job losses.

    177k?

    Seriously?

This a relic of antagonism with Turkey?
