    Army helicopters being sent in to rescue opposing team and fans who are surrounded by Port Said hooligans.

    Ambulances being prevented from reaching the stadium.

    Egyptian Soccer Disaster - 73 Dead

    At least 73 people are now confirmed dead following violence and a pitch invasion at a football match in the Egytian city of Port Said.

    There's video footage there too. It's not clear exactly what happened from the clip, it must've been the crush that did the damage. Horrifying stuff for Egypt and horrifying for Africa which is in the middle of the Cup of Nations at the moment. Is this violence merely a reflection on the ongoing social disorder post Arab-Spring, or just a tragedy.Parallels with Heysel will be drawn for obvious reasons.
    We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.
