War criminal African dictator was a US intelligence asset

It transpires that Charles Taylor the notorious dictator of Liberia, who was indicted on a host of war crimes charges, worked for US intelligence agencies.

Some people wonder why Africans cannot shake off corruption and despotism but what chance have they when the despots work for the most powerful country on earth?

He has been accused of terrorising civilians, recruitment of child soldiers, accepting "mayonnaise jars" stuffed with diamonds, and even cannibalism.
But the Defence Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon's spy arm, has now disclosed that its agents, and those of the CIA, did work with Taylor from the early 1980s.
During the Sierra Leone civil war that followed Revolutionary United Front rebels, described as Taylor's "surrogate army", mutilated thousands of civilians.

Taylor is accused of funding atrocities there in return for "blood diamonds." The former leader, who has compared himself to Jesus, denies the charges.

None of that surprises me. The CIA are a law unto themselves. We are talking about an organisation that used their own employees as unsuspecting guinea pigs in LSD tests back in the 1960's/70's after all.

Why wouldn't the CIA be involved?

Did anyone see the Liberia Documentary on Current (Sky 183)? It touched, albeit briefly, on this. The Liberian soldiers desire to work for the US army, the child sacrifice and heart eating etc. Crazy crazy stuff.
