PressTV - Registration for Parliamentary candidates comes to an end in Iran

    Registration for Iranian parliamentary election.

The nominees must meet certain criteria such as holding an Iranian citizenship, adherence to Islam and the principles of the Islamic Republic and they should not be less than thirty years of age.

The thread title (which in fairness to be OP is the title of the article) is totally misleading, and deliberately so. It would be the equivalent of having Tommy Broughan sponsoring a Private Members Bill and someone on p.ie claiming that Eamon Gilmore as FM, and not Broughan, was pushing it!

It's a shocking reminder of just how far the centre of gravity in Israel has shifted to the right that somebody like Avigdor Lieberman could hold the office of Foreign Minister.

Even the editor of American Magazine "New Republic" Martin Peretz who is about as staunchly pro-Israel as it gets called Lieberman a "Neo fascist" and compared him to Austria's Jorg Haider.

    Agreed.

The fact that an avowed zionist supporter is Minister for Justice should be of concern to every citizen in this nation.

That's not true, anyone with even a remote understanding of the Israeli political landscape knows that it has a media that in part is hyper critical of Government policy (in many respects its light years ahead of the joke of a media we have here),.There are many pressure groups in Israel that try to break the cycle of paranoia often bleated to appease the orthodox section of the population.

Misleading thread title. The bill would bar certain jews as well as Arabs.
Doesn't make for good copy though does it?

Yes, but only self-hating ones. And they, as everyone who knows anything about the rather frantic invented state of Israel, don't matter at all.

It is democracy, Israeli-style. IE The opposition are all terrorists and anyone who doubts government policy is automatically the opposition.

The media in that country, if they are hypercritical and I don't believe that they are, appear not to be influencing public opinion.

An already rightwing country is choosing to elect more extremist politicians/parties.
