    Tony Blair to become a Catholic

    Herad on the 1.00pm news that Tony Blair will become a Catholic . I wonder did Bertie have anything to do with this?

    I would be quite sure that his wife (who is a Roman Catholic) and his own personal experience will have had more to do with it if that is what he is going to do.

    Who cares what denomination he is anyway.

    There is nothing stopping there being a Roman Catholic Prime Minister anyway, there just hasn't been. Just like there has never been a Protestant Taoiseach in Ireland.

    There isn't the same level of Catholic / Protestant divide in Britain generally as in the North. The attention given to this is a media created one, most people couldn't care.

    Thats gonna be one marathon first Confession. Hope they have a substitute Priest to take over mid-way.

    He has always been a Romnan Catholic. He just kept it quiet for his political career.

    I remember hearing in 1997 that he had strong Catholic leanings and would be considering membership after his term of office ended.

    I think the lamentable Iain Duncan Smith was also an RC: never likely to make it to the top spot, but not on account of his religion. In my experience most of the English have no religious belief. The old Christian Brothers used to warn us that it was a Godless country. Great!
