There is nothing stopping there being a Roman Catholic Prime Minister anyway, there just hasn't been. Just like there has never been a Protestant Taoiseach in Ireland.Catholics who might like to be Prime Minister one day, I imagine.
There isn't the same level of Catholic / Protestant divide in Britain generally as in the North. The attention given to this is a media created one, most people couldn't care.

I think the lamentable Iain Duncan Smith was also an RC: never likely to make it to the top spot, but not on account of his religion. In my experience most of the English have no religious belief. The old Christian Brothers used to warn us that it was a Godless country. Great!
