    Iranian election results

    Looks like the Iranian conservative mayor of Tehran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has won the run off election. Is this a reaction against the percieved corruption of Rafsanjani or do the Iranians really want someone who ordered all government employees to grow beards as president. This guy is a former member of the Revolutionary guards by the way. Either way I think we should expect it to gte a little more exciting in Iran as there'll probably be an increase in nuclear activity and a less permissive attitue to the 'westernised' youth. Of course this guy does have his good points, banning a David beckham advertsing campaign for one.

    I hope this guy thanked Bush, and his incessant meddling in Iranian sovereignty, for helping him get elected.

    If anyone wants to see the level of ill-informed debate on politics.ie, take a look at this thread and the fact that most posters who have contributed to this seem to believe that Iran is a democracy.
