Worryingly high support for Hamas harsh treatment of Homosexuals in Gaza - Poll

Last Thursday the full results of the Israel Project Poll were released. One issue that strikes me immediately is the worryingly high support for the continued harsh treatment that Hamas have meted out to homosexuals since gaining power in 2007.

Israel Project: Poll results of Palestinian public opinion | Just Journalism

On the topic of gay rights, 81 per cent agreed that ‘Homosexuality is a way of life that should be discouraged by society,’ whilst only 15 per cent said that it should be considered ‘acceptable.’ Furthermore, 82 per cent felt that homosexuality should be punishable by law.
It has always bemused me why there is such silence on this site about the treatment of people based on their sexual orientation by Hamas. Just after coming to power in 2007 Hamas introduced a 10 year gaol sentence for male Homosexuality:

Penalty: up to 10 year prison sentence
Advocating For Israel: Tel Aviv Gay Pride Week 2011

This now has led to many gays fleeing to Israel the only country in the Middle East that will afford them legal protection:

in Gaza the area controlled by Hamas, homosexuality was made illegal just after Hamas came to power in 2007. Gay Palestinians frequently seek refuge in Israel fearing for their lives, especially fearing death from members of their own families.

Israel isn’t a perfect place and isn’t free of homophobia, but it is the only country in the Middle East where homosexuals are protected by anti-discrimination laws.

The Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar seems to be quite proud of the treatment they give out to homosexuals:

Hamas: Homosexuality Worse Than Terrorism | FrumForum

From Gaza, Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar fulminates to Reuters against Western condemnation of the Islamic terrorist movement:
You in the West do not live like human beings. You do not even live like animals. You accept homosexuality. And now you criticize us?
Don’t preach to us, Hamas tells secular West | FaithWorld

The West is floundering in immorality and has no right to criticise the Islamist movement Hamas over the way it governs the Palestinian territory of Gaza, a veteran leader of the militant group said. Hamas strategist Mahmoud Al-Zahar told Reuters in an interview that Islamic traditions deserved respect and he accused Europe of promoting promiscuity and political hypocrisy.
So the major question that now needs to be asked is given their extreme discriminatory treatment of homosexuals how on earth are people in the west who claim to be liberal able to continue to give support to Hamas.

Perhaps groups claiming to be furthering Palestinian rights by attacking the secular country of Israel might have to start looking closer at the Palestinian political representatives trampling on the rights of their own people.

Some people on the left tend to have a blindspot when it comes to the foibles of certain 'anti imperialists.'

Truth is that Israel is only state in the region where the same parties would be allowed exist and run for elections and which is 'socially progressive.'

Anybody who is anti-Israeli is okay, in their book. No matter how bigoted, blind or belligerent.

Edit: How long before they are posting on this thread, questioning the methodology of this poll, or in some other pedantic way trying to diminish these findings?

It would seem that obliterating Israel would be the answer to your above question:

I know of nobody who favours the abolition of the inhuman Gaza blockade, or any form of tempering unacceptable Israeli aggression who is also in favour of Hamas jailing homosexuals.

It would be similar to equating people who supported a bloody sunday enquiry uncovering the facts to also therefore being in favour of the Kingsmill massacre.

    Intellectually, its bankrupt.

The blockade is in place to prevent arms smuggling to Hamas, those trying to break the blockade are supporting the arming of Hamas which will only further their power. They may be failing to mentally make this connection, but removal of the blockade equates to Hamas gaining further military power:

In a preliminary search by the boarding party, the vessel was found to be carrying significant amounts of arms and military equipment.
