Historic Agreement between Taiwan and China

    Taiwan's Jujitsu Strategy against China

From Tuesday, June 28, 2011, individual Chinese tourists will be allowed to travel to Taiwan. Until now, they had only been allowed in tours where there is practically no opportunity to meet locals. The "experiment will start with 500 a day.
Taiwanese operators claim that many Chinese coming in tours would stay in their hotel rooms watching fierce political debates on Taiwanese TV.
It is hoped that they'll go home with a new vision of Taiwan.

Interesting and positive development. Hope it goes well for both Taiwan and Beijing.

I like this interesting turn of phrase: usually China insists that Taiwan calls itself "Chinese Taipei" in the few international events where it can take part or be an observer. Definitely, Taiwan and Chinese Beijing.

Chinese tourists are making their way to the West these last few years. They always return with a sense of amazement but their own philosophy fairly intact. Chinese tourists have, in other words, not been contaminated by the West and capitalism.
Taiwan, of course is a very different. One of the reasons people will visit there is to meet relations and shop for western consumer goods.

Why would they buy 'Western consumer goods' in Taiwan and not on the mainland, which is where they are made?

    Great news.

One hopes the Chinese will not use this agreement to spy on dissidents abroad or other espionage.

I remember a few years ago one of our spy planes went down in China. We got our aircrew back eventully but I don't think we ever got the plane back.
