Corbyn said Venezuela shows "us that there is a different, and a better way of doing
    things ... It’s called socialism."

Inflation set to hit 2,300%, opposition parties banned from election and an egg costs more than a day's pay.

The Soviet Union collapsed in 1989 and the 'free market' took over.

As the collapse in this country in 2010 shows the 'free market' is anything but perfect.

But the problems with the health service and the homeless etc in this country have not gone away.

However Ireland is the country with the sixth highest spending per capita of 36 OECD countries on health.

That puts our problems v those in Venezuela in context.

But they still own their own oil forests water etc. Actual assets and resources with intrinsic value.

Next door in Colombia, Brazil, Haiti Honduras - all economic and environmental basketcases with rampant political murders - all Washington shaped neoliberal countries.

    https://www.ituc-csi.org/colombia-tr...rdered?lang=en

An explosion of violence against trade unionists in Colombia, including the murders of six union representatives since mid-May, is putting the peace and reconstruction process in the country at severe risk.

Four trade unionists from the education sector – Washington Cedeno Otero, Johanna Alarcon, Juan Artunduaga and Mauicio Velez, along with two from the agriculture sector, Mario Calle Correa and Alberto Acosta Gonzalez, who was murdered while watching his young son play in a football match in Cerrito – have been killed in the past nine weeks.
When corporations, land barons etc gain the control over a country in the Americas, many political murders are inevitable. Should Venezuela fall into the hands of the opposition i predict a bloodbath will follow.

Thanks to Maduro, it's already a bloodbath.
Caracas is the world's murder capital by a mile.

A lot of regular murders do take place in that city (though i was referring to political murders), both the Govt and the Opposition share the blame.

A political murder is more serious because it is terrorism, it's killing an individual to spread fear and dissuade others from continuing the same kind of work. If Western neoliberalism is so great why have they always had to kill people in the pursuance of their goals in Latin America? Even when they control the Govt they have to kill trade unionists and environmentalists - they abhor balance the Latin American right - so many of the problems in that part of the world come down to that extremism.
