Venezuela needs to ask for advisors from Haiti to come and show them how to organise a capitalist democracy.

Michael D will never win the Presidency and Jeremy Corbyn has no hope of being elected Labour leader and Ireland will win against Denmark.

Also according to the Editorial Board of the Wall Street Journal

    Venezuela Goes Bust
Another lesson in the price of lending to a socialist regime.

Milton Friedman once joked that if you put the government in charge of the Sahara Desert in five years there would be a shortage of sand. He could have been talking about Venezuela and its oil wealth. But it is no joke.

On Monday Caracas missed interest payments due on two government bonds and one bond issued by the state-owned oil monopoly known by its Spanish initials PdVSA. Venezuela owed creditors $280 million, which it couldn’t manage even after a 30-day grace period. .....

Naturally the remainder of the article is behind a pay wall. Well you don't expect capitalists to give you stuff for free - unlike Hugo Chavez who doled out huge sums to the poor when oil prices were high and also wrecked the economy by expropriating private companies. Now that Venezuela can't afford to import anything - even food and medicine - the wicked local capitalists would normally be able to exploit the situation (i.e. grow their businesses) in the absence of foreign competition. Unfortunately they have mostly emigrated, so instead of being exploited the poor just starve!

Socialism is difficult in the age of international trade, it was the cutting off of trade that brought down the USSR and the same tactics with Venezuela. It's not a commentary on the efficacies of the system but a matter of isolation, plus that the threat of foreign invasion ties the hands of the President to deal with the internal enemies.

Trump threatens military action in Venezuela | USA News | Al Jazeera

US President Donald Trump has threatened military intervention in Venezuela, a surprise escalation of Washington's response to Venezuela's political crisis that Caracas disparaged as "craziness".

Venezuela has appeared to slide towards a more volatile stage of unrest in recent days, with anti-government forces looting weapons from a military base after a new legislative body usurped the authority of the opposition-controlled Congress.
When the history of this period for Venezuela is written it will be recorded that what happened in Venezuela was accompanied by a concerted effort to destabilise and abuse the country coming from outside. Colombian agents to international sanctions, coups and threatened invasions will all be mentioned. Venezuela has come under a form of attack on many fronts.

But to give in would be disastrous especially now. The future of that country lies in a coming together of the Govt and opposition for the sake of the country, a united approach but the US sponsored wealthy opposition have refused and have been relying on a collapse of the country to catapult them into power where they will no doubt privatise a great deal. When countries are ruined by the dictats of the free market the media tends to be very silent (as in Brazil).

Sweet divine. You sound like an Evangelical Republican lunatic from Alabama defending the indefensible Roy Moore. Substitute Alabama for Venezuela and you're there!
