Iran elected to the UN's Commission on the Status of Women

Iran joins UN's global body on the status of women

From the vaults of " you couldn't make this up" comes the latest farce from the UN. Iran, that bastion of women's rights, will take it's place on the Commission for the Status of Women. Keep on stoning lads eh!. I await the protests by the left and the feminists outside the Iranian Embassy. I mean they will be protesting won't they? Richard? Mary Lou? Anyone?

Considering they've only just expelled Libya from the Human Rights Commission nothing would suprise me.

Iran had a female vice president before the U.S. did. The U.S. still has never had a female vice president.

I wonder why Iran has less right to be on that commission than societies that have millions of women slaving away on he minimum wage, and thousands of women selling their bodies as prostitutes, and that commodifies women's bodies in advertising and porn. Not to mention that the affluence same societies are based on the slavery of women and children in the third world - including the murder of 5,000 children every single day from drinking dirty water.

Who has started most of the wars in the last 50 years? Yes, two permanent members of the Security Council - the US and Britain. Irony anyone...

Devils Advocate: So because they have a different view on a womans role in society, they should be kept off the UN commission?

I'd be against this more because Iran is suspected of developing Nuclear weapons and is under UN sanction (AFAIK) and because of their actions against protesters. These actions should mean immediate exclusion from all such positions.
