    Harry Windsor

Preferably still attched to the rest of him...

Poor ol Harry...looks like he might'nt get to play in the sand with the other chaps after all...

I suppose they will have to post him somewhere that he can walk around in complete safety - like South Armagh!

He won't be allowed out of the green-zone bunker. It's all a PR stunt.

They could get him there too... Saudi, or possibly Kuwait will probably be as close as he gets to the 'action'.

Typical of republican ignorance on any British topic. The guy's name is not Harry Windsor. His birth name is Harry Mountbatten-Windsor. His name in the army is Harry Wales. He is not and never has been Harry Windsor.

I am monumentally dis-interested in the British Royal Family, or any other pseudo celebrities, but can someone answer this: if the guy's name is Harry X-Y, why is his 'army name' Harry Z?

His Royal House name (the name of the Royal Family as an entity) is Windsor. All the children of the Queen's sons have the surname Mountbatten-Windsor (as do their parents). Grandchildren of a sovereign when they join the traditionally use a version of their title as a military name. Harry's title is 'Prince Henry of Wales', or informally 'Prince Harry of Wales'. Therefore he is known as Harry Wales. Ditto with 'Prince William of Wales' who is known in the army as William Wales. If Princess Eugenie of York joined the army, then she would be known as Eugenie York. But her actual personal name is Eugenie Mountbatten-Windsor.

If p.ie decides, for God knows what reason, to cover members of the British royal family on its site (though what they have to do with Irish politics I don't know. It seems as if it is just another attempt by some republicans to use the site for brit-bashing) then the least we should do is get the references right, just as we call Ahern the Taoiseach and not the Prime Minister, or we call the opposition leader Enda Kenny, not Enda Kenney. And we don't write Patt Rabbit. Opinions may be just opinions. But facts should be accurate on here.

    Re

He is called Henry Wales because he is Prince Henry of Wales and in the UK you are kown by your title - if you have one - hence as an Irish example the FitzGerald's are Duke Of Leinister, Marquess of Kilare, Earl of Kildare, Earl of Offaly and Earl of Desmond and therefore when signing a name it is generally signed as 'Leinster' if it was the Duke even though his actual name is Maurice FitzGerald - he runs a landscape gardening business which used to maintain the grounds at Robert Maxwell's mansion.

If Harry was killed it wouldn't make any difference to the succession as he has a brother and plenty of cousins so it's not like he is the last surviving heir of the Windsors.

It's not the same as say when the Prince Imperial was sent to fight the Zulus and the cowardly British left him on his own at an ambush where he died and he was the only child of Napoleon III and with his death any real chance of a Bonaparte restoration ended.

End of royalty history lesson for today!

And of course the Prince Imperial was not the guy's name. It was his title. But a lot of people write as if his name was 'Imperial' and think - what a ridiculous name! Almost as bad as Rocco and Jay.
