Yes, I must admit that I was suspicious on hearing of the plane crash. I know that the President was a thorn in the workings of the EU. He initially objected to The Lisbon Treaty Mark 2. He was open about his Roman Catholic views and was wary of the EU establishment. The EU Parliament have already made its opposition to people with these views on a very public forum; when they rejected Rocco Buttiglione and his Roman Catholic views as an EU Commissioner in the previous administration. They could do nothing about the Polish President because he was elected directly by the people. He would have also rattled the Russians with the proposed placing of USA missiles on Polish territory. Also, not many of the Polish people I know, shed tears on his unfortunate demise, which greatly surprised me. But I discounted this doubt that I had, on hearing that there was a severe fog in the vicinity of the airport!
Yes, I will be very interested in any further developments on this case. I can't see much in the film. The incident in the hospital would cause a few ears to rise if it was true. Yes, I thought that it was strange that Chancellor Angela Merkel did not go to the funeral; I also thought that our own President should have forsaken her comfort and sacrificed a couple of days to go overland to the funeral of a fellow Head of State. The whole non attendance smacked of the lack of culture, civility and humanity in the Europe of today.
Maybe the guys that submitted to the superb Bolivian Thread might lend their sniffing noses for a few pages!

Volcanic ash or no volcanic ash they could have attended, it was almost a snub to Poland and the dead man. I find it odd that no-one survived. If the plane hit a tree approaching to land you might expect someone to survive. Burgermeister reports that the skies were clear when the plane crashed.
Terrain Awareness and Warning System alerts to the approach of any dangerous obstacles or if the plane is coming too close to the ground- pilot must have known that he was in the vicinity of trees. Voice recordings demonstrated that nobody interfered with the pilot as reported in the media originally. Media also claimed that the pilot couldn't speak Russian- but he was fluent. The plane only attempted to land once- not four times, also falsely reported.
Russian security services stopped journalists approaching site. Their equipment was confiscated.
Radar system at Smolensk airport has since been dismantled.
Happened 70 years to the day of the original massacre.
