Booby traps and bum bangers: the latest from al-Qaeda

It would appear that al-Qaeda are now relying on surgically modified human beings as bomb fodder:

This means the bar will have to be raised at airport security... it won't be just a matter of the body scanners having to see your buns and/or boobies... they'll have to see inside them !

If the goal were to smuggle explosives, then this story is likely true, though still improbable. However a detonator would have to be surgically inserted too, making detection by airport security a simple matter. Thus the story seems to have no merit. Maybe what was uncovered was a story about efforts to see if the method in question was viable. But I think Al Quada would have abandoned the idea due to the methods obvious shortcomings.

the Guardian suggests the explosive in question, PETN, can be detonated with a nitroglycerin injection- and that it has been concealed in the body before:

A 68 year old lady was arrested Tuesday with what turned out to be two loaded handguns wrapped in
her knickers in the carry-on luggage on a Dublin>Birmingham flight.

Security became suspicious when they spotted the oddly shaped objects, she's been released and a file
sent to the DPP.

Surgical enhancements aside and booby-traps- isn't their something to
be said for eyes and nous ???
