Gaddafi calls for partition of Nigeria.

He's at it again. Commenting on the ethno-sectarian violence which so far this year has resulted in the slaughter of hundreds of people in and around the city of Jos, Gaddafi has called for Nigeria to be split between the Islamic north and the Christian south.

His comments have infuriated Nigeria's federal government which has recalled its ambassador to Tripoli.

The south, I think, around the Niger Delta and Port Harcourt. So, yes - it would be the Christian areas.

I'm not sure if this includes the three eastern states which tried to secede as Biafra in the late sixties.

Yes, the oil is in the south and more importantly the means of exporting the oil is on the coast.

This might explain why Christian leaders back Gaddafi. The Christian areas would end up with the lion's share of resources.

The Hausas will not let the southerners go because of what they are benefiting from the South every zone should go its separate way for peace to reign

Interesting, what's his game? Then again his sanity has been in question for a long time.

The oil fields were in Biafra, but oil isn't a great source of funding for secession movements, because you can't easily take control of production if you aren't the government. You can press-gang locals into mining diamonds, like in the Sierra Leone conflict, but you need skilled labour and capital to get oil from the ground. So oil producing regions tend to pursue constitutional separatism instead. The conflict over Biafra was caused more by attacks against the Igbo by the more authoritarian ethnic groups.

Nigeria is an artificial colonial construct anyway.
The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.
