Clashes between UAF and EDL in Bolton

55 people have been arrested after a clash between the groups Unite Against Fascism and the English Defence League in Bolton. Fair play to those who turned out for UAF, the EDL are a bunch of jackbooters

While the views of many in the EDL are without doubt unsavoury it must warm the heart of Ashcroft, Fred the Shred & others who have helped impoverish Britain to see the middle class idiots of UAF turn out in force to bash the working class instead of focusing on the real enemies of the majority. Who needs class struggle & solidarity when you can have naive identity politiics instead?

The UAF are a way of redirecting the left away from opposing the economic status quo. Identity politics gave them a survival card after the collapse of the USSR, the left was shaken to its foundation and has never recovered confidence in its economic analysis. It needed a reason to go on, one was found (or supplied). An internationalist label was sewn on and "anti-racism" was the catch call. "Revolutionary protest" as a life style choice and a career choice was born, new Labour was the main vehicle for the redirected revolution, and the UAF and others were created to co-opt the micro left radicals such as SWP etc, inticed with money and high profile jobs and a little victory for the internationalist perspective.

What a parcel of rogues are a movement.

UAF make a mockery of hating racism and anti-muslim sentiment.

I hate both too, but I think that UAF are childish and really boring.

''Fascist scum off our streets'' they chant.
Which is not good enough in my opinion.

EDF, I am pretty certain are racists, but fascists? I have not as yet seen a manifesto from the EDF that outlines a fascist future for the UK. I mean self described anti-fascists having nothing to do does not make whoever they oppose fascist. Self avowed anti-Fascists activist argues with bus driver over exact fare, Bus driver therefore = fascist.

EDL are many things, but fascist? I fear the term is being misapplied and cheapened.

The term "fascist" in modern parlance, like "nazi" & "commie" is just another meaningless buzzword that ignorant morons of the Left & Right use to bash their opponents with. Groups who use this kind of language are generally frustrated & have a vague idea that doing something political would help something or other but they're too lazy and/or dim to actually educate themselves properly in their chosen philosophy. In the US one sees similar stuff at Tea Party rallies with people drawing Hitler moustaches on pictures of Obama.

I appreciate your concerns, but there are reasons why I think they deserve the epithet fascist:
    1. They have street-gangs who use violence against their opponents.
    2. They have many connections with skinheads and other neo-nazi's: just check out their history of violent clashes and videos of their members giving the Hitler salute.

Thats why I think they deserve to be called a fascist organisation. From a socialist perspective fascism has nothing to do with the fact that someones opinions are right wing, but just that they are involved in an organisation that is dedicated to using violence against left-wing activists.

WOW, Do you really believe this is a middle class working class issue? Talk about taking things at face value.

Only the lower class can be racist or xenophobe?
