In fairness I wasn't expecting answers. The uncomfortable questions usually are ignored.

My position on the PS dispute is based on the very simple idea that a contract is a contract.

Well let me tell you, calling for the cops to get rough with a group of workers who cannot make ends meet is not socialist by ANY standards so you want to have a think about your ideas and where they come from.
Where did I call for "the cops to get rough" with anyone?

We really need the authorities to stop treating this sort of abuse of the public with kid gloves.

    Here:
That's not a call to be rough it's a call for rigorous application of the law. Just like the drivers want for those driving illegally.

    Abuse of public service workers?

Well, for that to be true, they would need to be working in the service of the public.

    Oh dear.

    Sack them.

Privatise the Passport Office and that will sort out the problem.

we need a new term how about "public non-serving worktorulers" or "Selfserving nonworking state salary takers" , because I for one won't be calling them public service workers.

Christ some of you are real nasty f*ckers.

Do you think the people working in the passport office are glad they have been selected by the Unions to escalate matters? My sister works there, mostly on the Public Counter and works flat out from pillar to post. She also puts up with a savage amount of abuse from Joe Public who has driven up from the country without half the correct forms and can't understand why his application can't be progressed or Foreign Biddy who has a screaming baby hanging off of her and has nothing stamped.

Delays up to this point are for other reasons. Top mgt have put a ban on neccessary overtime (before the workers refused to do it in other Dept.s) and the bringing in of seasonal workers, up to this point needed annually, to keep waiting times down.

In fact, ironically, it is likely that re-allocating staff today away from the public counters will lead to more applications being processed than usual.

The reason they have been selected is that they are a busy public office, (ironically again, they are less deserving of suggestion of being a stereotypical civil servant) and so they cause a bigger reaction. It will be social welfare and redundancy offices soon - god knows the vitriolic commentary we will see then.

Fastracking of Passports for politicians or their family etc has been stopped.
"We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history there is such a thing as being too late. Procrastination is still the thief of time. Life often leaves us standing bare, naked and dejected with a lost opportunity.... Over the bleached bones and jumbled residue of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words: "Too late." "Martin Luther King
