Crock as Irish citizens are not travelling abroad in huge numbers or else DAA is undercooking the number by 6 million in 3 years.

But they won't be docked pay or disciplined. As that would be an unacceptable escalation by management, totally disproportionate to the mild industrial action limited to refusing to do one's job while expecting to continue getting paid.

Now if they actually assaulted a member of the public instead of serving them, maybe that would warrant some disciplinary action. But only if they weren't provoked by say the victim having an annoying face or a difficult-to-spell name.

Similarly actual selling of passports to Mossad might warrant some docking of pay, but not too much.

Hardly to someon who maybe has to wait what might b up to a month for their passport now and might be put to some significant inconvenience and/or cost.

Sack them and get others who would like to work.

Sack whoever goes out in support and find other to replace them

How does this actually affect a person's constitutionally protected right to travel and consequent requirement of a passport under Art 41.3 if you literally cannot get one due to this action?

All these wasters should be thrown out on the street and told to fend for themselves.

Well, what would be to stop the Government putting out a tender for a private firm to issue official National ID cards to anyone who wants them?

That way - once set up - anyone travelling within the EU could travel using a National ID card and anyone needing to travel outside the EU would have a shorter wait time for a passport.

Were the ID cards to prove popular, we might even be able to get rid of some of the people in the Passport office altogether...

That's some good thinking right there. If any one group tries to hold everybody else in the country to hostage because of a dispute with their employers, the system needs to find a way to go around them.

Are the unions not operating a work to rule?
Surely, manning desks is part of their job description?

I'll say one thing for the civil servants, they stick together. You can be sure that the shop steward sent out an email telling everyone in the office to make sure they had their passport before they made this announcement.

Looking over the threads here, the abuse of public service workers, the calling for arrest of Taxi drivers, the Sunday Independent will not be short of writers if Eoghan Harris, Jody Corcoran, Mr Fanning gets a call to better things, there are plenty of posters here to fill their shoes.however, i expect to hear less criticism of them in the future, I Would not for a moment believe there are hypocrite posters here,

Well you can be arrested for traffic offences like wilfully blocking a road without authorisation, which is what the taxi-drivers are doing.

Schengen - its your only man - as I sit in Brussels airport amidst all the Etiopians, Israelis and Brits I wonder why cant I be in the part of the airport with all the other Europeans - the promised land that I can only dream of - the answer comes to me - were not in Schengen cause the Brits are not!!!! Well I say F..k them - lets join and push them even further into the political culdesac they are already in. We are Europeans - not British Islanders.
